- Sat 27th & Sun 28th - SAREX - ANNUAL CANTERBURY SAR EXERCISE AT LAKE LYNDON:
- Thurs 25th - SAR TRAINING - TRACK & CLUE AWARENESS REFRESHER : Meet at AP Visitor Centre at 1730hrs. We will venture up the Bealey Valley for this exercise; bring head-torches and warm clothing.
- Thurs 18th - SAR A.G.M - Arthur's Pass Community Centre at 7.00pm.
- Thurs 18th - FIRE TRAINING - T.B.A
- Thurs 11th - SAR TRAINING - RIVER RESCUE & CROSSING : Meet at AP Visitor Centre at 5.30pm, pending wx and river levels, we will venture down to Klondyke Corner to refresh River Rescue & Crossing techniques. Bring typical tramping clothing & a change of warm clothing.
- Sat 6th - SAR TRAINING - HELICOPTER STROP RESCUE : Meet at AP Visitor Centre at 10.00am. Only those booked in to this course should attend.

- Thurs 3rd - SAR TRAINING - VERTICAL ROPES (PULLEY SYSTEMS): Meet at the Arthur's Pass Community Centre at 1730hrs. Hamish R will be instructing in setting up complex haul systems.

- Thurs 5th - SAR TRAINING - VERTICAL ROPES (LOWERING): Meet at the DoC Workshop at 1730hrs, bring 2x locking carabiners and headlamps. The Hamish's will be instructing in setting up anchors and lowering systems.
- Thurs 12th - FIRE TRAINING - APPLIANCE CHECK & TOOL SHARPENING: Also we might do a casual debrief of our recent fires and go over any issues and do a little refresher on anything that people like. Usual place at 5.30pm (at the Siren).
- Sun 15th - FIRE TRAINING - FIRE SERVICE MVC PUMP RESPONSE COURSE: This is the course they run for non rescue Fire Appliances and is a one day thing on the 15th Nov. It's held at Hororata, Nic will be going. Anybody else interested? I'm not sure how many places are still left (they are just trying to fill up a course being held for the Hororata Brigade). Get back to Nic ASAP if you are keen. Nic will be taking a vehicle.
- Thurs 19th - SAR TRAINING - CLUE AGING: Christina & Mel will run this "ageing of sign" practice, as a follow on practise from the latest SARINZ course. Some ageing stations will be set up each day for the 7 days or so prior and then examine and compare them all on the night. Meet at the DoC workshop 1730hrs, bring head torches.
- Thurs 26th - FIRE TRAINING - MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS (MVA): Nic will be going over our responsibilties at MVA incidents.

- Thurs 8th - SAR TRAINING - TRACK & CLUE AWARENESS REFRESHER: Meet at the Arthur's Pass Visitor Centre at 1730hrs. This will be an informal refresher of TCA techniques prior to some of our members heading off to a Tracking Course (TCA.2) this coming weekend. It could be worthwhile for those who have done TCA.1 in the distant past, or new members yet to do this compulsory element of LandSAR.

- Thurs 10th - SAR TRAINING - RESCUE ANCHORS (VERTICAL RESCUE TECHNIQUES): Meet at Arthur's Pass Community Centre at 1700hrs. This practice will be led by Hamish Reid & Morgan Cox.
- Thurs 17th - FIRE TRAINING - NEW APPLIANCE FAMIL: Our Tojo Fire Chaser has come back revitalised. Famil of equipment use and driving the beast.
- Thurs 24th - SAR TRAINING - NZ TOPO 50 MAPS & COORDINATE SYSTEM: The new mapping system will be launched on the previous day, this is our opportunity to become familiar with the new system as it will be officially utilised in all SAR & Emergency Service Operations from now on. Meet at the Arthur's Pass Visitor Centre at 5pm. Hamish Reid will lead this practice.
AUGUST 2009
- Thurs 6th - FIRE TRAINING - HYDRANT CHECK.
- Thurs 13th - SAR TRAINING - SEARCH METHODS: Sound and light lines. Meet at 1730hrs at Visitor Centre smoko room. 20 minutes theory then travel to Bealey Chasm carpark to practise. Bring warm clothes, head torch, a second torch (strong hand torch if possible), also a whistle if you have one. Some equipment available available from SAR Store.
- Thurs 20th - FIRE TRAINING - STRUCTURE FIRE: Fire practice and famil of a business around town.
- Thurs 27th - SAR TRAINING - ROPE SKILLS: Rescue anchors of various types. Meet at Arthur's Pass Community Centre at 1700hrs. Mel Nelson will be taking this practice.
JULY 2009
- Thurs 9th - FIRE TRAINING - 1730hrs - FIREMASTER PUMP.
- Thurs 16th - SAR TRAINING - 1900hrs - KNOTS & PUDDING: Meet at Community Centre at 1900hrs. Bring some rope (and if you have them carabiners, prussiks etc) and if you are so inclined some pudding to share. This will be the start of an ongoing theme of training and practising personal rope and rope rescue skills. As well as practising knots we will draw up a list of different rope skills and what people are unfamiliar, familiar and confident with and use this as a way of planning what to cover in future practices.
- Thurs 23rd - FIRE TRAINING - 1730hrs - AMBULANCE PACK FAMIL: We will look at administration of oxygen, bag masking a patient (i.e. ventilating them when they are not breathing), using OP (oropharyngeal) airways and using our little handheld suction unit.
- Thurs 30th - SAR TRAINING - 1700hrs - SURVIVAL IN SNOW: Meet at DoC Visitor Centre at 1700hrs. Snow shelters is the name of the game. Start praying now for at least 30cm of snow on Heli-Pad!
